Who Should Join This Group
- Anyone that has an interest or need in improving the management of mental health. This group is not specifically aimed at people with a mental health diagnosis, but rather people that need support and strategies to manage distress and/or dysfunction in their daily lives.
- A webinar format is not best for people in crisis, but is helpful with ongoing stress due overwhelming pressures.
- You can join if you have a family member that is struggling, but won't seek help for themselves, and so are coming to learn in order to support a friend or family member.
What It's All About
This workshop is an introduction to stress management and will focus on understanding what stress is and what are the elements that you can change. It will take the format of 90 minutes on Zoom and will be facilitated by two experienced Storm’s Edge Psychologists. This is a free introductory taster for our 6 week group therapy programme, “A Guide to Breaking the Stress Cycle” which will take place online in March 2022. While the full programme uses the group therapy format emphasising group work and discussion, this workshop will use the psychoeducational format used for building your knowledge on a specific topic.
After an introduction, the team will introduce two key concepts about stress management, followed up by two interventions and two principles of psychological management. The primary goals of this workshop are to show:
- that stress is a specific experience rather than a normal part of daily life
- that this is something that is extensively researched and understood
- that there are things that can be done, you are not powerless
The workshop is being offered to say if you actively and strategically engage with your stress, you can do something and you can make have a real impact.
Storm’s Edge Therapy was started in 2016 to offer a service to people that don’t fit well with existing services. Although the core of our practice is customising psychological theories and strategies for diverse profiles and needs, we face many of the same issues day after day. Whether you are an artist or an engineer, a mother or a brother, carefully organised or the shoulder to cry on, everyone is susceptible to the same human struggles. Stress, difficulties in relationships, low days, worry overload, destructive habits and many other experiences bring strain to our lives. Our group programme is aimed at these shared problems and reactions, making group sharing the best tool to address them.
