Dr Alecia Anderson

Alecia is a skilled and experienced Psychologist who adopts a pluralistic framework based on the premise that no one therapeutic approach is superior; different clients are likely to benefit from different therapeutic methods at different points in time. The pluralistic position puts the client and their needs at the centre of therapy and is based on working collaboratively.

“I honestly believe that people are experts of themselves but with help from trained professionals they can have a better understanding of themselves and the reason(s) for their behaviours, which can help them to make changes to their lives, be the best person they can be and fulfil their potential.”

Her professional experiences include working with a range of mental health and relational difficulties; such as psychosis, depression, anxiety, trauma related difficulties, borderline and antisocial personality disorders, self-harming behaviours, bereavement, self-esteem and confidence issues. However, she has a particular interest in working with clients who experienced childhood emotional neglect (CEN), treatment resistant depression and anxiety, crisis of faith, borderline and antisocial personality disorders, and trauma bonding.

“In addition to drawing on multiple evidence-based therapeutic approaches, I also adopt a relational focus, which means that I use the therapeutic relationship as a base for understanding clients’ relational and dynamical issues that might be the main problem or an exacerbating factor.”

She has been trained in Relational Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Person-Centred Therapy (PCT), and Mentalization Based Therapy (MBT) frameworks. With further knowledge of a range of other therapeutic approaches, her practice is integrative and provides a range of different lenses through which to conceptualise clients’ individual difficulties.

“I would describe my therapeutic style as creative and innovative because I try to figure out what works for the individual client and implement this, whether it be a single or integrative approach.”

  • Dr. Alicia was brilliant from day one. She made me feel very comfortable and was able to understand me and my needs very quickly. I’ve seen progress from the first session and I have breakthroughs pretty much in every session. Each session feels like a safe space and I can’t imagine not going to these sessions because they have improved my life considerably.
