How Does Our Depression Clinic  Work?

Our depression clinic operates with a structured and efficient procedure to ensure that clients receive the support and treatment they need promptly and effectively. The process begins with initial contact and progresses through assessment, treatment planning, and ongoing support.

Starting with the initial assessment, facilitated by our experienced team. Upon contact with Dr Alecia Anderson, clients are guided through the assessment process, which includes a 2-session depression assessment conducted by our qualified and experienced psychologists. During the assessment, clients complete online questionnaires to evaluate their suitability for the Flow tDCS home treatment device. Criteria for suitability include commitment to the treatment protocol, evaluation of depressive profile, treatment history, and current presentation.

Once clients are confirmed suitable for tDCS treatment, they proceed to the training session, where they receive detailed instructions on using the device and managing the treatment protocol. During this session, clients are added to the dashboard, provided with the necessary information to order the headset, and instructed on device activation and usage. Throughout the treatment phase, clients are encouraged to track their progress as well as their reaction to ensure their safety and well-being. Additionally, our well-being practitioner offers ongoing support and guidance, including cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) sessions and access to our bespoke online Mental Health Monitor. Our goal is to provide comprehensive care that addresses the unique needs of each client and supports them on their journey towards recovery.

Unlocking the Potential of Flow tDCS with Therapy

A Holistic Approach to Mental Wellness

At Storm's Edge Therapy, we understand the complexities of navigating the journey towards mental wellness. That's why we offer a comprehensive approach that combines the innovative technology of the Flow tDCS device with the proven benefits of therapy. Our integrated approach recognises the value of therapy in complementing the effects of tDCS, providing clients with a holistic treatment experience that addresses both the biological and psychological aspects of depression.

Enhancing Treatment Efficacy Through Therapy

Therapy serves as a crucial component of our treatment programs, offering a supportive and nurturing environment for clients to explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences. While the Flow tDCS device targets the biological underpinnings of depression, therapy provides a platform for deeper exploration and understanding of the underlying causes and triggers. Our skilled therapists work collaboratively with clients to identify maladaptive patterns, develop coping strategies, and cultivate resilience in the face of adversity. By addressing the psychological and emotional dimensions of depression, therapy enhances the efficacy of tDCS treatment and promotes lasting positive change.

Empowering Clients on Their Journey to Recovery

At Storm's Edge Therapy, we believe in empowering our clients to take an active role in their mental health journey. Therapy offers a safe space for clients to voice their concerns, express their emotions, and work towards meaningful goals. Through compassionate guidance and evidence-based interventions, our therapists help clients develop practical skills and insights that extend beyond the treatment room. By integrating therapy with the benefits of the Flow tDCS device, we equip clients with the tools and resources they need to navigate life's challenges with resilience and self-awareness. Together, we embark on a journey towards healing, growth, and renewed hope for a brighter tomorrow.

    Common FAQs:

    1How Flow Works
At the heart of Flow is transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS), a non-invasive brain stimulation technique that targets the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) – a region of the brain associated with depression. Depression often correlates with reduced activity in the DLPFC, impacting mood regulation, focus, and overall well-being. Flow gently delivers a low electrical current to the DLPFC through electrodes placed on the forehead. This stimulation increases activity in the DLPFC, helping to rebalance brain function and alleviate depressive symptoms. Unlike traditional antidepressants, Flow's approach offers fewer side effects, providing a promising alternative for those seeking relief from depression.
    2What to Expect with Flow
Many users of Flow experience significant improvement in depression symptoms within three weeks of regular use. However, individual responses may vary, with some noticing changes within days while others may take longer. It's important to adhere to the recommended treatment protocol for optimal results. While sensations during use may vary, most users describe a mild tingling sensation or a feeling of warmth on the forehead. Safety and Compatibility Flow is designed with safety in mind, drawing from years of tDCS research and clinical practice. It has undergone rigorous testing to ensure both safety and efficacy in treating depression. Flow can be used alongside antidepressant medication, offering flexibility in treatment options. We encourage you to explore Flow as part of your journey towards mental well-being, recognizing that each individual may find a unique combination of treatments that works best for them.

    • Very good. I recently started therapy with Kael, and I couldn't be happier with my decision. As someone who had never been to a therapist before, I am truly grateful that Kael became my first. He is incredibly professional, kind, and calm. What amazes me the most is how he can provide strong and powerful answers so quickly and succinctly. Sometimes, a single sentence from him can help me understand and resolve long-standing worries or questions. I highly recommend Kael to anyone seeking a thoughtful and effective therapist.

    • I started therapy with Kael nervously due to experiences I’d had in therapy previously. He was able to ease me into the process at the right pace for me. I felt very safe in sessions even when working through my most challenging issues and emotions. Kael is very experienced and knowledgeable, able to provide insight from psychological theory, practical suggestions, emotional support and well-judged challenges. He guided me towards new ways of understanding of my experiences, fresh perspectives to consider and a toolbox of strategies to use. He was always open to discussing the process itself and receptive to feedback. I’ve had a very rich and rewarding therapy experience.

    • Exceptional, Kael was able to understand my issues very early on and provided a logical rationale for processing and dealing with them moving forward. It feels incredibly refreshing to be able to move forward in my life equipped with the tools to deal with similar circumstances again. Would highly recommend it.

    • I have worked with Kael at various stages over many years when I needed to overcome or understand many issues or obstacles I was struggling with. Whether meeting face to face or telephone appointments, he has always been able to successfully get me unstuck and move me forward in ways I would never have imagined. Very professional and highly recommended.

    • Dr. Alicia was brilliant from day one. She made me feel very comfortable and was able to understand me and my needs very quickly. I’ve seen progress from the first session and I have breakthroughs pretty much in every session. Each session feels like a safe space and I can’t imagine not going to these sessions because they have improved my life considerably.

    • I appreciated Kael's support and guidance, and particularly him taking the time to walk me through explanations of the theory behind what I was going through. I felt able to be vulnerable, but also responsible for my own growth and emotions.

    • Kael has enabled me to find myself and to become the person I could always be from the muddled, angry and frightened person I was. Two years ago my relationships were fraught and tense. My family supported me but none of us knew why, nor how much longer it could last. Kael’s empathy, insights and understanding and his skill in recognising and determining the essence of my fears, my sadness and myself, have meant that through kindness, open-mindedness and with wisdom and clarity, he has allowed me to explore and understand those fears. So much so that together, I and my family, and my friends are all of us now taking pleasure in my journey. I am in my 60’s and it is the psychotherapeutic time with Kael that has enabled me at last, to regard myself with kindness and understanding. I no longer fear life, I no longer wake frightened by the thought of the day ahead, of who I am or who I may have hurt with unkind and cruel words. Kael is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist skilled in Pyscho-dynamic Psychotherapy and coaching. He is skilled in and works in the specialist approaches of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness Approaches, Mentalization Based Therapy and Schema Focussed Therapy. Kael also saves and enriches lives.
