It seems like a simple thing. It seems like a no-brainer to anyone you might tell. You’re doing it, you’re in control, you can simply stop. But we know it’s not that simple.
Self harming can have several reasons, and for different people it’s the only thing keeping them from going over the edge.

I never understood what I was doing, I just knew it felt right, and that I felt better afterwards. I’ve been in recovery for 2 years now, becasue i understand my illness, what triggers my reactions and how to be brave and not give in to the urge to do it, but also how to keep balanced and avoid those triggers and stresses which are going to set me off
